Redo of old artwork

After a year of taking classes at schoolism and working on improving my art skills I thought it would be kind of fun to go back and recreate some of my art from just a year ago to see how much I have improved.

That's unbelievable. You could advertise Schoolism from those to pics alone. Nice work.

That's great, Steve. Beautiful work. I agree with what Doug said, definitely an argument to take these courses.

So, what's next for you?

Thanks everyone for the comments.
I have created a lot of kids books over the years, I want to keep doing that, but with a new style and look.

I'm taking the next schoolism course in August. I've learned so much from them, even just learning new ways to think about working and how to work.

Hi, sorry to be honest, but I think you lost some good stuff from the old Illustration. Looks like you were concentrating too much on using all the techniques that you learned about shading that some of the original appeal is gone. The character desin of the Alien dog in the old one is totally charming. The added dog in the new one is unimportant .He has a not much saying pose and doesnt add any information. The colors of those dogs are too close to the mountains in the back. The dog on the left n the old one has a real attitude and a real funny pose. He adds "bite" to the illustration. while in the new one everything is just polished. Everything is too pleasing. Also the most important part, the cookie. In the new one it is painted in the same colors as the broken planet in the background.... Look at the old illustration: better solution!!! I dont say the colors in the old Illustration are great, really. In general I think your technique has improved but you lost your fresh style on the run.

THanks for the comments and crits...I am more methodical in my illustrations right now and it might be a bit stiff in the case of the dog. I think with more practice this will change and become more fluid. My colors are too muted right now. I'm just learning to use the split compliments taught to me by Jason Sieler, and I need way more practice with it. I'll keep posting new work as I finish.
Thanks again!
