Pardon my earlier outburst :D

I got it to a good enough stopping place, at least. I figured I'd go ahead and stick my sketches and painting up so's y'all could have a look.

Hope everyone else had as fun (and challenging) a time as I did ;)

grrrrr!!!

drat, it happened again!!!! I had been working on my kathy painting for a good twenty minutes since saving, had worked in her collar, refined the neck, detailed her nostrils and ear . . . GAAAH!!! That's it, I am saving every minute from here on out *cry*

I have GOT to learn how NOT to procrastinate in the first place or I wouldn't be in such a bind. Does anyone else have this hard-to-shake habit?

Stéphane Dion Caricature

This guy is the leader of the Liberal Party in Canada, the Official Opposition. We're ramping up for a federal election here, and this was for today's editorial cartoon. His likeness always gives me trouble, but this time was easier...most definitely because of the course.

Kind of a rush job, and would have liked to have spent more time on it, but such is the nature of deadlines, I guess.

Value Study

So as Patrick mentioned below in his post... we were doing value studies over top of one of Jason's sketches for last week's assignment....here's mine.

My thoughts on the course so far: freaking awesome. Where else can you take a course by a talented and inspiring professional artist you admire?? AND do it from home?? Man - This is what the freakin internet was invented for!! Jason is a really great teacher and you all already know he is SUPAR-talented. I think of these classes like specialized art mini-ateliers you can attend without having to move across the country or quit your job!! Nice to see everyone's reviews too - I've picked up a lot watching those - and the progress everyone is making each week is pretty awesome...

Gary Painting

Jason is encouraging us to post our work on this blog, so here is my Gary painting, based on the sketch Seiler provided.

This is before the critique. Jason's critique was ( as usual ) right on the money. The largest criticism on this one was that I made some of the values too dark..and that the darks were a little too dark in general. I have to agree with that, because after he painted over it, I saw exactly what he meant. I'm still fairly pleased with this one, but as with any work, there is always room for improvement...and I'll hate it next week. :)

One of the things I love about this course is looking at everyone else's critiques as well. What a treat, because I've learned as much from the work of the other students as I have from my own.

My first two weeks of Caricature

Hi guys, I've finally gotten around to posting up what I've been upto here at Schoolism. I have, ofcourse, signed up for Jason Seiler's Caricature course and I'm absolutely loving it. It may sound strange , but it's a good sign while your working, you see somebody's face and think to yourself "hmmm..squashy head". :D

Jason's already critiqued these and I've yet to fix them up. Definately by the end of it though, I'll make sure I've corrected them...maybe even improved them!! We'll see how it all goes. Hope to see everyone posting their progress as well!

Working on my Book!

Here's a w.i.p. for my new book "Caricature The Art of Jason Seiler" with Imaginism Studios. Still a bit more to do in this painting before I'll call it finished. I'm currently working on a lot of new paintings as well as a few other special gems for the book, I wish I could share it all right now! The book will be available to buy this June! Also, the book will feature some AMAZING guest artists . . . I have done sketches of each of the guest artists who will be in the book, this sketch is of my good friend Tom Fluharty. Wait to you see what he has painted for the book.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper

I'm taking Jason Seiler's course, and while we're only on Week 3, I've already noticed an improvement in my caricature work. Probably because the guy is an absolute slave driver. :)

While I'd like to spend more time on my editorial cartoon caricatures, I've often got to get them done and sent out in a day or less. This one took about 8 hours from sketch to completion but I enjoyed working on it so much that I could have easily spent another day on it. If nothing else, I'm more confident getting the likeness down in a short time.

Hello all!

Evening all, I can see great enthusiasm here!

I'm Silver Saaremäel. I just finished Bobby's digital painting and the course was great for me, who has been all self-taught this far. It covered alot of basic stuff that are essential for good picturemaking. Obviously it also included alot the advanced stuff that can get anyone's head messed up :)

Anyhoo, thanks Bobby for the great course and teaching me this far, it was a great way to get that extra 10+ hours of painting into my weekly schedule!

Anyways, here's a few new pictures I've made recently, other is pretty much tribute to the whole digital painting class we just completed, using alot of the workflow Bobby tried to teach us :)

University is doing fine, even though its tough I am still sticking to illustration; hopefully when I do graduate that will not be the end of my art career.
