another thing i did

since then was entering the CG challenge for 'strange behaviour' ...

i started out with this characterstudy of a young girl. My main concern was the style itself..

so...i never finished the piece due to many reasons ofcourse....

It's been great!

Just making sure this is working the way i want to...this is the last work i did for bobby's class. It was fun because of the way bobby 'recognized' the pee on the ice in front of him. Like somebody urinated on the ice, just before he walk by... great class and great feedback by bobby!

Cool!

Thanks for bringing me onboard Bobby!

I was lucky enough to be in Bobby's first Digital Painting Techniques Class, and I can't be thankful enough. Here's my latest. I'm big into high fantasy and dragons and all that, but for this I tried to throw in Bobby's humor. Hope you like it.

Greetings all!  I hope this came out alright (first time blogging and all that...).  I just finished up Bobby Chiu's DP class and it was a real eye-opener and was the kick start I needed.  I was (am) a freelance illustrator/cartoonist getting frustrated and burnt out from the more traditional means of making art and have been having a blast doing my work via PhotoShop.  Here are some pieces I did after graduating from his class.  Hope you enjoy them!

Animation survey

I hope it's ok to post this here... an animation survey has been posted here:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=zTTxFYcgNmIhaJIzzFnHxA_3d_3d

Once you complete, there are some nice freebies, including some high res landscape/cloud photos (great if you are doing digital painting and need textures and such) and a very nice collection of facial expressions, mouth positions for phonemes and references of a variety of people pointing (this collection is great if you have taken Silver's class).

Hi my name is Aja (asia) and this is my first digital painting class. I currently attend a state university and work in graphic design, but it is my hope that I will be able to go on and get an MFA in Illustration, specializing in Children's Book illustration.
I am very excited about this class, and I have already learned so much! I look forward to the coming weeks and seeing how everyone progresses. The drawing I attached was created prior to this course, and I look forward to redoing it in a painterly style!

Schoolism is great!!

Hi. My name is Justin and I'm based in the UK. I have been a freelance artist for around 4 years now and last summer I decided to take Stephen Silver's character design at Schoolism. Easily the best decision I have made to further my artistic skills. I learnt so much and Stephen is an incredible teacher. I have'nt stopped drawing since the course and am producing new works daily. It's also brought in more clients which is fantastic. I'm glad this blog is here and am looking forward to checking in daily. All the best. Justin.

Ps. Here is one of the many characters I designed since taking the course!!!

Hi

Prior to doing Bobby's digital painting course I had no painting experience on the computer at all. I knew how to use the programs for my graphic design work, but doing what I really wanted to do (digital painting) always seemed like an uphill battle so never tackled it. Thanks to the course now I know what's needed I can enjoy doing it and not see it as a "task".

Thanks again Bobby for making such an excellent course.

Below is my first solo piece done for my work's christmas card. Not the most brilliant thing but seeing as I only had half an hour to design it concept and all I don't think it's too bad.

Cheers all,
Penny Astridge

Hi there

Hey, my name is Esther, I am a high school student that is currently studying her last semester of high school. I plan to study animation and digital arts, I love anything that has to do with drawing. I draw all the time, and my most strongest medium is my water colors. I started working with photoshop for a long time, but I never used it to digitally color my images. Mostly because I never got control over how to get things done.
This is a piece that you can find on my deviant art, its a character design for a story I made about an aviator called Edriane.
She was made in a A4 Watercolor Canson paper.
The style is anime, but a bit more organic than anime itself, since anime is very straight.

This is a great idea

I was hoping Schoolism would be starting something up like this!

My name is Brett. I've recently finished up Silver's class on Character Design (and loved it!) Today I started the self-taught version of Bobby's class on digital painting (I needed a good excuse to upgrade my version of PhotoShop).
As far as my art background goes, I am mostly self-taught, having only taken a few comicbook-style drawing classes when I was in 6th grade or so. I was pretty fanatic about drawing and painting all through high school also, but had mainly focused on technique rather than design. I kind of stopped drawing through my 20s and 30s and focused on my career as a software engineer. So now here I am in my mid-life crisis and trying to revive my rusty skills.

I am very interested in hand-drawn animation and my main goal is to produce independent hand-drawn animated films.

I am also an amateur musician and am producing a CD of my band Alhazred and also compose orchestral music. You can check out my main blog for more details!

I'll Go First.

Hey all,

I have been doing art for Video Games for 8 years now, mostly as a 3d artist. 2 Years ago I decided to go freelance and had decided that illustration was more interesting to me than 3d art. The problem was that the quality of work that I was used to seeing and wanted to do I was going to have to learn on my own.

I have 2 kids - 1 and 3 - and no longer have the ability to work on a piece for 12 hours straight, nor is it appropriate for me to leave them alone while I join local sketchgroups. I needed to figure out how to do the work that I wanted in a shorter amount of time. I had seen a lot of different classes but they were all for beginners and didn't offer what I would consider "techniques" to help a person who already has a career but needs some pointers.

This class was great as a way for me to catch up on the digital power of photoshop and has helped me to refine my process. I am very close to getting the look in my work that I want and its getting faster all the time. Bobby's techniques are in the back of my mind consistantly. Unfortunately working on Video games makes it so I can't show you the new stuff for a while. Its all hush hush. But I can show you this acrylic painting I did a month back.
